What makes your brand different from other matcha brands?

There are a lot of matcha brands out there and it's difficult to know which one to buy and what to look for.  Matcha is packed with health benefits, which can be greatly affected by how matcha is grown, processed and handled.  So here's why we are different:

Sourced from a single farm in Uji, Kyoto
Known as the birthplace of matcha, we've sourced our matcha from a single tea farm located in Uji and is one of the oldest tea farms in the region. Our matcha is grown, stone ground and packaged directly at the farm ensuring quality control at every step.

Stone ground
Our matcha is ground using traditional hand carved stone mills to ensure a fine powder is produced.  Other brands use different methods which don't achieve the same result and is often gritty and hard to dissolve.

No repackaging
Our matcha is stone ground and immediately packaged at the source.  Matcha is a very delicate powder and susceptible to oxidation when exposed to too much air and light. This degrades the matcha and affects the taste, smell and colour - often turning matcha to a dull or brownish green. To ensure you receive the freshest matcha possible, we don't repackage.

Japanese and USDA Certified Organic
Both grades of our matcha is JAS certified (Japanese Agricultural Organic Standard) as well as certified under EU and USDA.

What is the difference between ceremonial and everyday grade?

Ceremonial grade is the highest grade of matcha made from the youngest and most tender leaves.  This grade is more nutritionally dense with slightly more amino acids and has a more vibrant green colour.  The taste is more delicate making it perfect for drinking on it's own, but can be used to make matcha lattes.

Generally, matcha falls into three different grades; ceremonial, premium and cooking grade. Our everyday grade is premium grade matcha made with first harvest tea leaves, so it still retains a beautiful shade of green. The flavour is a little more robust than ceremonial, which stands up to other ingredients when used in cooking or drinks, but it's still delicate enough to drink on it's own.

How do I use matcha?

Matcha is a very versatile ingredient that can be used for more than just drinking.  so you're only limited by your imagination.

How should I store matcha?

Once opened, it's best to store matcha in the fridge.  Ensure that the package or tin is well sealed and airtight to keep your matcha fresh.

What is the shelf life?

Our matcha has a 1 year expiry.

How much caffeine is in matcha?

Matcha contains approximately 34mg of caffeine per 1 gram, which is less than a cup of coffee.  However, the presence of L-theanine in matcha slowly releases the caffeine, providing a prolonged period of energy of up to 6 hours without the crash or jitters associated with coffee.

Matcha also doesn't have enough caffeine to stimulate production of cortisol (fat producing hormones) or adrenaline.  These hormones can cause rapid heart beat and stimulate the same symptoms as anxiety and stress.  Instead, the unique combination of L-theanine and caffeine in matcha create a calmed alertness over a prolonged period that can not be achieved with any other caffeinated drinks.
